Chinese researchers captured the entire process of a gamma-ray burst

Scientists from the Institute of High Energy Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences tracked the entire process of a gamma-ray burst at the Great High-Altitude Cosmic Ray Observatory in the city of Daocheng, Sichuan province. With this observation, the complete process of the high-energy burst phenomenon was recorded for the first time. The relevant research findings were published today on the website of the international academic journal Science.

It was reported that the gamma-ray burst captured at the Great High-Altitude Cosmic Ray Observatory reached Earth on October 9, 2022, at 21:20. During the gamma-ray burst, the observatory tracked the entire process of the high-energy photon burst and recorded, for the first time in the international scientific community, the increase and decrease stages of the trillion electron volt gamma-ray flux.

After analyzing the data from the gamma-ray burst for approximately six months, the scientists explained that the burst occurred very rapidly, and the decay process was also extremely fast.
